Project Summary
Nuon is at an advanced stage of investigating the potential to develop a wind farm in an area known as Rhyd Ddu which is located south east of Llanerfyl in Montgomeryshire, Powys. Rhyd Ddu is within an area that has identified by the Welsh Assembly Government as suitable for wind farm development in its TAN 8 policy to reduce its dependancy on fossil fuels and ensure a secure mix of energy generation for Wales.
At this stage it is anticipated that the site has the capacity to accommodate a wind farm of 50MW or more. Applications for renewable energy proposals above 50MW are considered as nationally significant infrastructure projects and are currently determined by the Infrastructure Planning Commission.
Nuon submitted a Scoping Request in March 2009 to Powys County Council. This is an important opportunity to consult at an early stage with key consultees who will provide important input into the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) and the project design.
At the end of September 2009 Nuon hosted the first of a number of community engagement sessions where local people had the opportunity to consider the plans, ask questions and give their feedback on the proposal. The results of these sessions are currently being analysed and where appropriate they will inform the development of the wind farm proposal.
