Community Benefits

Nuon UK believe that it is vital that the community are involved in the design of a community benefit scheme so that the end result is a package that meets the individual needs of that community. With this in mind Nuon held a workshop for the local community to express their ideas and concerns on the community benefit scheme that would be set if the Mynydd Waun Fawr wind farm were to be constructed. During the community workshop the priorities within the community were established and suggestions were made about the sorts of things the potential community fund could benefit. One idea was a community micro-generation scheme where the fund would provide funding to enable residents to install equipment to help lower their fuel and electricity bills and perhaps even generate some income through the sale of electricity. Nuon are experienced in working with the community in this way and developing area specific community plans. Nuon is also offering local residents the opportunity to own some of the wind farm and to personally benefit from revenues that will be generated.

We are now progressing the development of the community benefit fund that will be provided in the event that the Mynydd Waun Fawr wind farm is granted planning permission and constructed.

Should the planning application be approved by Powys County Council a substantial community benefits package worth £200,000 per year over the 25 year life of the project will be made available to the local community. This fund has the potential to substantially regenerate and invigorate the community and is a once in a lifetime opportunity.
