Projects
Nuon Renewables is working on a number of wind farm projects throughout the UK.
We are an ISO 9001:2000 registered company, with well defined work processes which ensure that projects are developed efficiently and to consistently high standards. In the initial site selection we apply a rigorous set of criteria to assess the suitability of a site. Once we have decided to pursue a development on any given site we will always carry out more detailed studies to assess likely significant impacts such as:
- Ecology - are there any sensitive plant & animal populations on the site?
- Access - Nuon will strive to maintain the recreational value of the site.
- Sound Levels - ensure that the sound levels from the turbines are within acceptable limits.
- Archaeology - we will work with the county archaeologist to protect the historic environment of the site.
- Landscape - our design principle is to use wind farm layouts that fit in with the land form and character of the receiving landscape.
- Traffic - we seek to minimise construction traffic and the distances travelled between trunk roads and the project site.
- Telecommunications and Aviation - we consult with civil and military aviation agencies and telecommunications providers (including TV) to ensure that no negative effects are experienced.
Nuon Renewables is confident that the measures we take to assess and mitigate the impact of our proposed projects will lead to renewable power schemes that the local community can be proud of.
Community Involvement
To further demonstrate our commitment to the communities around our proposed developments, Nuon Renewables includes provision for community funds in our business plans. Typical uses for this money will be to fund energy efficiency schemes or community projects in the vicinity of our proposed developments.
Nuon Renewables also works with Energy4All, a community investment cooperative, which facilitates community ownership in some of our projects.
